Not that the last couple of weeks have been “normal” (normal is him in office for at least two days, me on calls for a rew days, two different training nights (one with him teaching/me kind of TAing Form 1, one Form 2 where we both train), once a fortnight gaming with friends, once a week date night, but the last few weeks have been…not disrupted in a bad way, but disrupted.
From a week away with him, me on an impromptu writers’ retreat, to the UKGE… From Eiryss going for her (radioactive) Iodine treatment in our older car, to collecting her in the new one (another post, for another time), last week my immune system deciding to go on strike (double ear infection, a chest infection, shingles and an opportunistic infection on my leg), it's been a bit…up abd diwn.
In that vein, Tempus is off to a European meeting tomorrow - he flies out on Wednesday, back Thursday night, leaving Tuesday.
I've been working on various things while I've been unwell - but first…
Thank you for the headsup about the antibiotics I was given, for those that checked in. I already knew about the side effects (hello potential Long QT), but it encouraged me to ask my GP to consider whether I could have different ones who readily agreed, after saying that they were surprised I was still being cautious. But, as i said to my GP, it wpild be just my luck to be halfway into them, hit the nights Tempus is away, and then get into trouble, and, while I know the only way to find out if it's common or I've just hit the crappot by finding the specific blends so far that do it is for it to happen, but, as I've said to my GP, not only do I worry I'm currently contagious (shingles, on my cheekbone) but call me a pragmatist, but, I kinda feel like being in hospital, with the way my immune system is misbehaving might actually be worse than battling it out at home. Long story short, my stomach hates me, but my heart shouldn't do wierd stuff now. If it was a possibility. (Three antibiotics in a week, plus one set of antivirals. Yoghurt, lots of liquid and bland food is my freind). It's not what I mean by cleaning inside though. :)
The inside cleaning I was talking about was letting go of lots of stuff. I'm about to read “Let Them” by Mel Robbins (https://books2read.com/LetthemDKW) , so its feeling like spring cleaning is long overdue. I'll let you know how it goes, but i'll be posting a lot of my notes on Fable (its like Goodreads, just more fun). Join and follow here: https://fable.co/kai-viola-363433318726
Maybe it is me being wierd, or the fever talking, but there's just no room for guilt, and hopefully it'll hold. It’s not that I don't feel bad about it all, but… Realistically, a few places need to be more… realistic, I guess. My part of this is no, as a complete sentence. It's uncomfortable, but necessarily required.
The outside cleaning involves new stuff - Purdy and Figg and Neat sprays (they are naturally derived cleaners. Longtime readers will know I also like Koh), and I've recently discovered the joys of paper dusters. Spring cleaning means the house smells of pine, lime and yuzu. Sweet orange and sage. I'll get pictures later (of the bottles and my new holdall bag for all the bits I want to use) ,but I'm finding that, even if I do a little at a time, even if it's not cheap, even if it's gimmicky stuff, that it gives *me* a measurable yardstick to enjoy. Which, when you are exhausted as I am right now, is a good thing.
I've always loved the smell of freshly washed windows, clean bedding, wiped doors - I've just, really only recently gotten to the point where I'm doing it regularly. Ironically, right now, only when I'm tired, which is less good. But, it's part of #Kaiatus too.
Longer term, I'm working on edits, and releases. And ideas that catch me at 3am, when I can't sleep. Again, might be the fever talking, but there's a world of horror that seems to pounce on me when I'm on the feverish side of my meds, an hour prior to feeling better (and half an hour before taking them), but…they are…interesting. My bujo has some really unusual ideas in it.
Might share some of them tomorrow. For now?
Snuggling into nice bedding that I've sprayed with Feather and Down - another brand I highly recommend though, it’s not cleaning supplies, it's self-care, and something both myself and Artenapan both love.
Yours, rattlingly,
Kai
