Paid - Next week's AtoZ and some other news
Keeping you guys ahead of the announcements!
One of the things I absolutely love about April is the fact that I get to spend a whole month writing about the things I adore. Tomorrow, while I’m actually away training with another ‘F’ for, I’m announcing a new book.
Like…brand new.
And you have to be a paid subscriber to find out anything beyond the name - if you’re a paid subscriber, you’re about to get the blurb, the deets, the works ;)
Bit mysterious eh?
I’m still trying to get on top of everything that I’m committed to, so while this isn’t quite what I promised you, it’s all getting closer. From May, you guys are getting a chapter a week from one of my other newer projects, but first up, let’s talk about ‘Finder’s Keepers’.
F is tomorrow’s letter after all, and along with talking about Finder’s Keepers, I’ll be talking about F for family and friends, so I can show off other people - inspiration being what it is, I have to acknowledge - and thank - all of you.
So. I’ll start with Finder’s Keepers.
Finder's Keepers is a Garrett story - which means it'll probably be a serial. It merges, officially, the stories between Elliot, Harper and Maebh. Well, sort of. It's pretty far down Elliot's timeline, and the same for Harper, and there's quite a bit that needs to happen in Garrett before I get there.
And this is what I wanted to touch on today - a lot of my inspiration comes completely randomly.
But, unlike the post on my blog, which only really gives this and the inspiration behind the name (which links back to my conversations about how I end up with my stories), you guys are getting the blub.
“In the two years since Maebh has been working for the Reapers and the Great Game, Niamh has only seen her once. But she’s still a Priestess of Care - they both are, and in life, and afterlife, that means something.
So when Jonathan reports that there’s a disturbance with his wraiths, the HellHounds are getting all sorts of weird powers, and the Fae are just MIA, someone has to step up and sort it all out.
So when Harper comes to chat with Niamh about an issue with Elliot’s newest case, and Naire taking out one of the biggest protections that Darkness has, simply by acquiring an artifact from a world where the virus he uses has already taken hold - where the werewolves and Vampires hold court, some things start making sense, but for everything they clear up, another six pop up. But Harper knows more than he’s letting on and both Chancey and Havoc both end up on Niamh’s doorstep.
Can Harper keep all of his secrets, or are all of his worlds colliding and it’s really a case of "Finders Keepers” and if so, how and when is he going to tell Elliot and the others?
As I said in the paragraph before, Finders Keepers is about Nate Naire, and therefore, Elliot isn’t far behind. It’s one of the first times he’ll encounter Maebh, Jax and Niamh on their on territory, so there’s a lot of jurisdictional ‘fun’, and, of course, one of the relics they need for the Great Game.
And it’s also the first place that I explicitly acknowledge that all of my universes are linked, except, so far, Shula’s fantasy novels.
Garrett, Black Monday, Darkness….a tonne of my short stories. Finders Keepers is one of the lynchpins and it’s the first novel I’ve written, brand new, since my head started hurting.
There’s even a sneaky link to Serial Pen-Pals.
So… What do you think?
Also, please do swing by the A to Z of me and my inspirations - I’m talking about at least one letter of the alphabet Monday through Saturday at Kaiberie.com, but I’m also doing sidebars over to other blogs, like Typing a Blank, bi-polarbears and tomorrow, sharing a tonne about my ‘fam and friends’.
And, as a bonus, coming up till next Thursday on Kaiberie.com:
F for Finders Keepers
F for Friends and Fam
G for Groups
G for ‘Only the Gods are real’
H is for Home
I is for I am, I feel
and finally on Thursday, J is for Jump.
And as an extra, here’s the poem that goes with ‘Jump’ ;)
I looked round the space,
A leap in front, a wall behind,
on that wall is safety, a door,
back to a life I could be...
settled, safe, in the space
I already made.
but, that space
that cage,
is only safe,
because I know all of it.
Or I could go out
on that ledge.
Take a leap,
or hold on and stay.
I look around the space
white hospital walls,
a curtain between me,
and the rest of the world.
I look around the space
blink in slow motion
feel myself slip
before I lose the chance
to free myself.
I jump...
